<p>Dubai: 01 September, 2008 – Deerfields Town Square, the AED1 billion mixed-use project in Abu Dhabi developed by MBI,   today announced it has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with French retail giant Carrefour to set up a hypermarket within the development.<br />
According to the 20-year lease deal, the Carrefour hypermarket will span 10,000 sq metre area at the Deerfields Town Square project. The retail giant has also assured it will not open another outlet within a five km radius of the mixed use development during the lease period.<br />
Banu Tas, General Manager of Deerfields Town Square, said: “We are delighted to enter into this alliance with Carrefour to lease our first anchor outlet within the retail component of the project. Carrefour is a strong business partner and a renowned brand. We believe the deal will result in extraordinary commercial synergy, benefiting residents of the area near our development in Abu Dhabi.”</p>
<p>Abu Dhabi&#8217;s retail spending is forecast to reach AED7.19 billion by 2009, according to a recent report by Retail International. At the same time, per capital gross leasable area (GLA) is expected to shoot up to 5.35 square feet in Abu Dhabi, while the UAE&#8217;s per capita GLA is expected to reach 4.38 square feet, ranking the country third highest among the GCC countries.<br />
“The Carrefour agreement validates Abu Dhabi’s enormous retail potential as the emirate’s economy is set to remain on a sustained growth trajectory in the long term. In addition, the deal bears testimony to the appeal of Deerfields Town Square project located at Al Bahia city in Abu Dhabi, especially its retail and entertainment components across a 2.6 million sq feet area,” she added.<br />
Scheduled for completion in 2010, Deerfields Town Square will primarily comprise over 200 retailers from varied segments. Globally renowned Colliers International is the retail consultant for the development that will primarily boast over 200 retailers from medium to upscale brands, anchor shops, retail chains, stand–alone retail carts, food courts, casual and fine dining restaurants and coffee shops, amounting to almost 80 per cent of the development.</p>
<p>Encompassing all dimensions of a world-class destination, the Deerfields Town Square will also comprise a one-of-its-kind bird conservatory.</p>

<p><strong>Abu Dhabi:</strong> – Mubarak and Brothers Property and Financial Investments (MBI), a major investment company with key stakes in real estate and construction, infrastructure, and industrial ventures, today announced it has assigned world renowned Colliers International as its retail consultant for the AED1 billion ‘Deerfields Town Square’ mixed-use project in Abu Dhabi.<br />

Colliers international, a global professional real estate consultancy with over 293 offices in 61 countries offering services in Development Consultancy &amp; Advisory, Investment &amp; Advisory, Property &amp; Asset Management, Professional Valuations Services, will oversee the progress of the development that will reflect classic Victorian architecture, and feature retail, commercial, residential and hospitality components in a total build up area of 3.2 million sq feet.<br />
 <br />
Banu Tas, General Manager of ‘Deerfields Town Square’ said: “Colliers International is known for its outstanding track record in the delivery of consultancy on shopping centers, retail leasing and mall management services. Colliers’ expertise will set the Deerfields Town Square development on the right track and help us manage the incredible response we have received following the project’s launch and its showcasing during Cityscape Abu Dhabi 2008.”<br />

At the initial stage, Colliers will be involved in assessing Deerfield Town Square’s design layout and making recommendation on specifications, positioning, development strategy for the retail areas and ensure optimal efficiency and sustainability <br />
 <br />
Based on market research, analysis and experience, Colliers will advise Deerfields of the right tenant mix, zoning (such as women’s fashion, men’s fashion, kids’ apparel, accessories, entertainment and food court) and assessing the most appropriate placement of specific brands to enhance key attractions to the Mall. <br />
 <br />
Colliers will also negotiate contractual terms with major anchor shops to provide Deerfields with the best balance of retailers. Additionally, Colliers will be involved in proposing long term Leasing and Management issues as well as property performance advice. <br />
 <br />

Deerfields will enter the market at a strategic time when the emirate of Abu Dhabi is expecting an increase in leasable area by 2010. Nestled in Al Bahia area amidst new developments in Abu Dhabi such as Al Raha Beach, Yas Island, and Khalifa A and B Cities, the development will also comprise a hotel.<br />

A real estate professional, Tas will leverage her exemplary management skills, industry knowledge and exposure for achieving fruition of the ambitious Deerfields Town Square project. <br />
 <br />
Mohammed Al Haj, CEO of MBI said: “We are privileged to welcome on board a successful industry leader such as Tas. In parallel to her role with MBI, Tas will continue to be associated with the Property Division of Al Fahim Group. Heading the Emirates Property Investment Co. Throughout her eight -year tenure with Al Fahim Group, Tas managed around 1,000 property units across the commercial, residential, and retail segments under the Group’s portfolio. She achieved remarkable returns for the owners and other stakeholders, in addition to drafting the business structure of the organization, defining key responsibilities in view of the Group’s long term strategies.<br />
 <br />
Beginning her career in Turkey’s finance sector as a management trainee, Tas rose in ranks within the corporate banking sector in Turkey. She was then drafted as Head of Corporate Banking to Moscow, where she further developed her career competencies until she moved to the UAE.<br />
 <br />
Tas is a certified member of the International Council of Shopping Centres (ICSC) and the Middle East Council of Shopping Centers (MECSC).<br />
 <br />
She holds a bachelor’s degree in Economics from the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey, and a Master’s from the University of Istanbul, Turkey.</p>
